Lisa Moffat was born in Scotland, and started studying singing at the age of 14 with Alice Dennis and Raimund Herincx. During this time she built up considerable performance experience singing as a soloist with local choirs, in recital programmes and music festivals. She also played the piano and trumpet, gaining distinctions in singing, piano, trumpet and theory and leading the brass section in various youth orchestras, bands and a jazz band.
She joined the Haddo Junior Choir and Theatre aged 8, and took many solo parts over the years as she moved up the ranks to the Youth Theatre and Choral and Operatic Society.
She has sung in the chorus of the past ten operas at Haddo, and also took the part of Barbarina The Marriage of Figaro in the touring production with Camberwell Pocket Opera (now English Pocket Opera) in 1999, performing in six performances at the Ryedale Festival, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Haddo.
After leaving school she studied music at Huddersfield University and recently graduated after having gained a BMus (Hons). Whilst at University she took part as a member and soloist of the University Choir, University Chamber Choir, Huddersfield Camerata and a project in the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. She sang as a soloist for A Child of our Time, Carmina Burana, Messiah, and Serenade to Music, as well as regularly taking part in the Lunchtime and Evening Recital programmes and The Mrs Sunderland Musical Competition.
She gained first class marks in performance exams with her teacher Rebecca Saunders, and received commendation in a Masterclass with Stephen Varcoe.
As part of her course she took the parts of Sandman Hansel and Gretel and First Lady The Magic Flute in staged scenes from the operas.
Having returned to the North East of Scotland, she plans to continue studying singing with a view to postgraduate study at Music College in a few years. Meanwhile she looks forward to continuing her solo career in the area, and will be taking pupils.
